The Story

As a father of four girls, I have traveled over 75,000 miles around the country with my daughters to watch over 1,000 girls’ youth soccer games within the last ten years. My oldest daughter soon approached the age to be recruited to play soccer in college. I quickly realized I had no idea how to start the process. How does women’s college soccer recruiting work? I asked club coaches and other parents for advice. They told me, “Have your daughter email the coaches from the colleges she is interested in attending.” I still had several questions such as, what should be included in the email? Where do you find the coach’s email address? Can they contact me back? I researched different resources to try to find answers. However, I couldn’t find a solid resource to guide me through the process. With all my unanswered questions about NCAA rules and regulations, I knew there had to be a better way.

Last year, I met India Trotter, the assistant women’s soccer coach at the University of South Carolina Upstate, and we started to talk about the pains of recruiting. We came up with the idea to create a resource to help parents and players through the rigors of the college recruitment process. This is when A Parent and Player Guide to: Finding The Right Fit, The Naked Truth of the Women’s College Soccer Recruitment Process was born. With Trotter’s experience as both recruit and recruiter, she shares her soccer stories and her knowledge with a straightforward approach. The book helped to lead my oldest daughter to a Division II school in North Carolina where she will have the opportunity to excel. It has only become easier and more enjoyable as I go through recruiting with my two younger daughters. A few key things I have learned are to be realistic, open-minded, and optimistic about this time in my daughters’ lives. Parents, remember to give your kids a hug for the hard work and the sacrifices they make to reach their full potential.

I believe there is a place for everyone to play at the next level. It is my hope that you too will find India Trotter’s book to be an invaluable resource to guide you on your journey.
